Team Invitational Figure Skating Competition

Each Spring, more than 100 skaters from North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and other surrounding states compete in the annual Triad Team Invitational Figure Skating Competition hosted by the Triad Ice Skating Club and the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Annex.
There's no money awaiting the medalists -- only the personal satisfaction of achievement. Especially for the younger skaters, the sense of self-esteem gained through healthy, positive competition, and some public recognition for their many hours of practice, is well worth the effort. Skaters of all age levels, from toddlers to seniors, compete for medals in individual events as well as first-place team trophy.
The skill levels vary significantly as well, as individuals compete with other skaters based on the highest skating level they have achieved. Many skaters compete at the Freestyle level, with each of the ten levels requiring more sophisticated maneuvers and jumps than the previous level. Events include Artistic Skating, Interpretive Skating, Spotlight (Light Entertainment, Dramatic, and Character), Dance, Pairs, and even Precision Teams. The two-day event also features exhibitions by expert skaters from the Triad area.
The event is recognized by the international Ice Skating Institute. Although competitors must pay a fee to participate, admission to view the events is free. Events run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The competition is made possible through the generous contributions of area businesses and the sale of program advertisements, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and other skating accessories.
The thrill of amateur competition is alive and well in Winston-Salem, and you are invited to share in the excitement! For information about participating in this event, advertising in our event program, or just attending, contact us.
